Case finding among children and adolescents at risk for being HIV-positive remains low, especially in light of PEPFAR’s ambitious 2018 target of initiating 280,000 more children on ART. Even in settings where pediatric testing services are readily available, data suggests that some pediatric clients are not accessing services in a timely manner. To reach children and adolescents living with HIV before severe illness or negative life events (e.g., death of a parent) lead them to a health facility and/or social protection services, it is imperative to identify and scale up effective case finding strategies. This satellite session, organized by the JSI-led AIDSFree Project and featuring presentations from the AIDSFree Project, the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI), and the Supporting Operational AIDS Research Project (Project SOAR), will focus on new approaches for improved HIV case finding for pediatric clients and offer participants recommendations on considerations for their own programs.
