The HIV epidemic continues to grow rapidly in the WHO European region: 160,000 people were newly diagnosed in 2016 (and 80% of them were in the eastern part of the region). Additionally, the region has the world’s highest rates of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) and the lowest treatment success rates. This occurs against a backdrop of donor funding withdrawals that currently support vital HIV and TB services, including service provision to key populations, drug procurement and human resources for health. This session will be an opportunity for civil society, non-governmental organizations and government representatives to learn about the successes, challenges and lessons that have come from acting to mitigate the impacts of transition from donor funding to ensure the sustainability of essential HIV and TB services. The session will be organized by the TB Europe Coalition, a network of more than 170 civil society organizations and individuals in more than 35 countries in the WHO European region that seek to empower civil society and TB-affected communities to actively participate in the TB response.
